Living fully – as an expat

Online or in person workshop and group experience

In this workshop in four parts we will explore the specific challenges of being an expat – as well as the resources. What does expatriation do to our identity? To our relationships with our partner or with our children? To our relationship with our family and friends who still live in our country of origin? Do we feel accepted and integrated where we live? Can we feel rooted abroad? How do we take care of our need for belonging? What meaning do we make of our life experiences? …

We will play and travel through different dimensions, using geographical, biographical, metaphorical and existential lenses:

Where I come from (and what I carry with me): my origins, my life trajectory, my values – and what I have been through, my wounds. How did I “end up” where I am today, being who I am?

Where I am now: how am I today? Do I feel like I belong? Do I struggle with loneliness? What am I satisfied, or not satisfied with? What helps me be happy? What prevents me from being who I want to be? (If you have children:) Is it important for me that my children speak my own language? That I pass on my culture to them?

Where I want to be: my goals and dreams for the future (short and long-term); how to get there; what’s next?

Through exercises, an open dialogue and exchanges, you will get the chance to know and understand yourself better. You will also inspire, and get inspired by, the other participants of the group and the group dynamic itself. A group experience can be a strong learning and growing experience, in particular with peers – like fellow expats. The interventions will be done according to the participants’ needs and wishes.

The workshop will be led by Fanny Isnard, an expat herself. She is French, married to a Swede and has two binational children. She has been living in Sweden for 10 years. She has been interested in interculturality and has been curious about personal growth since a loooong time. She works as a gestalt-therapist with lots of expats clients. More info

Group of minimum 5 to maximum 8 (online) or 12 (in person) participants.
